Safely in about a third of the way home, after a four-state, fourteen-hour stretch ending with the first Mets win I've seen in at least two years. Many pictures will follow; the good ones will be coming from my seatmate.  For now, though, just notes to me on the things I need to remember to post about:

* I really can't stand traffic, and every state's stretch of I-95, as well as every expressway/parkway/driveway in NYC and Long Island, have way more than I can stand;

* The Belt Parkway in Brooklyn is prettier than I ever remember it being, though;

* Downstate courts hate me- and the Mets;

* The drive from one of said courts to Citi Field was surprisingly nice and full of memories, even though I doubt I'd ever taken it before;

* Mostly, the game: good friends and a great result;

* Homeward bound requires driving by the Death Star home of the Evil Empire, which is now recognizable by the boston.sucks billboard somebody planted along the Bruckner- stay classy, Steinbrenners.

One regret I have about my time in NYC is that I didn't spend nearly enough time in Brooklyn while I was there. There's so much to see, and my kid didn't get to experience nearly enough of it. I think he actually spent more time in the Bronx than in Brooklyn. Odd, that.

I know so little about the borough, although my mother grew up in it. HER mother was the last of my grandparents to die, and I have vague memories of her home (and a very specific one of the address- 120 Weldon Street- must look that up). I went to one BAM concert in high school, and ran one errand for a family-friend lawyer at Kings Supreme when I was in law school. Other than that, my feet haven't touched Brooklyn pavement since my grandmother was still alive. Now my "memories" are mostly of the hipster tropes of goatees and free-range chickens, but clearly there's so much there. When I have a mostly dead day on the 28th, I may head out there instead of into Manhattan.

Brooklyn has the NY Transit Museum which is worth a visit just because of it's unusual location - the disused Court Street station (former terminus of the A/C line).

Coney Island is another something I regret not taking my kid to see. And the parks around the Verrazano Bridge - great views!
