We watched the final 20-odd minutes of the Wymyns World Cup final from BC, all of it with US holding onto a 5-2 lead. That's virtually insurmountable in hockey, much less in this sport where the rules seem even more designed to prevent scoring.

Congratulations to Rochester's Abby Wambach, who's waited her whole career for this.

Following the conclusion of the 90 minutes and the running of the Mystery Minutes, they passed out a bunch of awards. Giving the "Golden Glove" to Hope Solo might not have been the most tasteful of ideas.

I've still yet to see if the hat trick scored by our Carli Lloyd resulted in the tossing of actual hats onto the pitch.

Well done.

We didn't see any hats on the pitch. Is "hat trick" a commonly-used term in soccer?

Not at all, because the idea of a team scoring three goals in a single game is so bizarre, much less a single player.

It's a total borrow from hockey, and since this was in BC, I still wonder if they did what they do on the (now almost as rare) occasions when a single guy on the ice lights it three times.
