Sad-urday:(
May. 30th, 2015 09:39 pmThe call came minutes after 9 this morning: Emily was supposed to be providing food and support for a charity event her company was sponsoring, but instead she was on the phone to their vet. Arthur had taken another turn for the worse. Still feverish after weeks, sluggish, and worst of all, antisocial.
I stayed over there three nights before and he seemed better than he'd been. When I returned their car yesterday morning, I stopped in for a minute or two and saw the grandkitties both ambling around.
Within a half hour came another call: they'd talked to the vet, and it was time. He was crossing Rainbow Bridge by 10.

That's how I'll always remember him. Big. Goofy. Always wanting to be with you. And then this-

- after the first scare, when the drugs seemed to be helping. He was purring, and seemed hungry and playful. When I saw him the other day, he was briefly affectionate, but then shot behind that futon as if to say, No, I am NOT ready for my closeup.
We so wanted to be there with them, but they didn't want him to suffer a minute longer than needed. Eleanor sent them flowers-

- which were much appreciated. They will bring him home to us, to join the other galloots in our front beds. Many great companions are already sniffing his butt on the other side. He's free- AND had a good home.
