Birther of a Nation.

captainsblogToday's the day we've all been waiting for. Texas Republican Senator Rafael Edward Cruz declared his candidacy for president.
Of the United States.
That might go without saying, except for the undisputed fact that Cruz was born in Canada, to a Cuban father and a United States citizen of a mother. It is not entirely clear whether the "natural born citizen" language in Article 2 of our Constitution includes or exclude ol' Raf, so wouldn't you think he and his party would want to find out before all the time and money going into a campaign?
Apparently not.
I listened to some wackadoodle radio today, and checked the leading site for identifying "liberal media bias" (HI!), to see if they were criticizing Cruz for daring to be Canadian. Nary a peep. They're in serious denial mode over the issue.
Seems odd, after so much effort got put into questioning the constitutional bona fides of the incumbent, Hawaiian born, holder of the office. You'd think with all that fuss over long-form certificate contents and faked 1961 birth announcement allegations, the Birthers would be all over Sr. Cruz.
So I turned to the birther of all birthers- the official website of Orly Taitz* to see where she was weighing in:
"Many on the left are trying to bait me and use me in launching attacks on Ted Cruz."
Her "answer to the question of eligibility of Ted Cruz" then goes on to not even mention the man, but rather her tired old tropes about the Kenyan Marxist Socialist's illegal social security number and fabricated stamp on a Selective Service document and way too much boring shit about the dockets of birther cases she lost.
Or maybe she just thinks Canadians are natural born US citizens. Why not? Tim Hortons owns Burger King now, so yay, eh?

Date: 2015-03-24 12:37 pm (UTC)While the Constitution did not define "Natural Born Citizen", case law surely has. Cruz is a natural born citizen.
He's also delusional, has made few friends either inside or outside of the Party, and vanish like the dew on the grass.

Date: 2015-03-24 01:43 pm (UTC)"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
IF his mom was a US citizen, AND registered his birth as being a US citizen with the Embassy or Consulate, he is a natural born US citizen. It is not automatic (and as you know, I've had reason to check). Have we seen proof that he was so registered? He could, of course, retroactively apply for his citizenship, but somewhere, sometime, it actually had to be applied for.
