Inside Job

Neither of us left the premises today. I got about five steps out the door this morning for the paper and to bring in the frozen birdfeeder;  Eleanor retraced those steps to re-hang it once thawed and refilled, plus took Ebony to the back yard for a quick game of catch while the sun was still out and the wind not too brutal. The phone says it's now -4F somewhere out there; neither of us have entered a car with more local thermometers. I do know that snow on both cars still hasn't melted inside the garage, and there's ice on top of the inside recycling tote and the inner handle to the front door out of the garage.

I usually work on President's Day, but I'm rather pleased to not have to go anywhere tomorrow, when it's supposed to get even colder. The rest of the week, including the train trips Wednesday/Thursday, look like this:

At least there are no seeming blizzards in there.

While inside this weekend, I got two of our four tax returns done- ours (we owe, but not as much as expected) and Emily's (one small refund, one smaller check to send in). Cameron's and my sister's will get done when I get all of their info. W-2's have been a PITA for the kids this year because of their move; at least three of theirs got sent to their old Rochester address if they got sent at all, and I can't even estimate Cameron's because Wegmans never even gave him a paper paystub at the end- it's all electronic, and since he hasn't worked there since last summer, they've purged him from access to it.  Wegmans does put their W-2's online to import through your tax software, but thanks to those pesky identity thieves, you need data off the current year form in order to import them.  They should rename the thing from W-2 to C-22, just to be clear about things.

Eleanor and I also each had marvelous fun dealing with Windows updates for her 8.1  laptop and for my new Windows 7 aka Groot.  The latter must apparently retrieve every past update in sequence and then restart itself after each.  Groot's really working the limits of his vocabulary with this:P  We can't wait for 10 to kill both of these beasts.

Finally, I usually cheap out and just click the little cakey-wakey icon on the Facebar, but [livejournal.com profile] yesididit has become one of our most regular and appreciative readers- and certainly understands weather forecasts like today's. Happy birthday from both of us, Laura  ::hugs::

It's a bit chilly over there. Here, had the windows open, the daffodils nodding in the breeze, and a light jacket was all that was needed for my walk today.

Of course, this summer we'll be bemoaning the lack of snow-pack... but I'm looking forwards to it being dry enough to run my kids around outside at school tomorrow.
