Eleanor is posting about beginning her day with one of her wonderful doctors. This dude hit the trifecta of incompetence- he was late, rude and irrelevant. She came home in worse emotional shape than she was BEFORE the guy got his medical license on her. Fortunately, she's been doing well enough for long enough that isn't likely to be too damaging.

In turn, I ended my day with the seamy side of my own profession. I detest doing Night Court- it's never as fun as when it was Harry and Christine and Bull and the Not Dead Yet Female Bailiff of the Week- and it's usually small-time criminal court, which is way outside my specialty. I tell people honestly: I can't get you any better deal or disposition than you could get yourself, but since they take the lawyers first, you'll get it a LOT faster. This was my first time out in a village a few towns over, and it reeked of what I call "old-boy" practice. If you're not in-network with said old boys, you don't know where to sit, who to talk to or what to say, and you wind up feeling like an ugly bump on a log. At least I did get the client out sooner than would've been the case had I not been there, but there's got to be a better way to communicate and organize in a system where you can't just up and leave if you don't like it.

At the risk of sounding like a broken meteorological record, the weather sucked again today. When I left for the office, Sheridan was in full white-out mode, and the cross-street to Main was an ice rink. It had calmed down by the time I left, and was fine all the way to court and back tonight, but there's another decent snowfall on the way and they've already announced the closing of the 90 from Rochester all the way to the PA line. My only court tomorrow is here, which I can get to without taking that route, but I'm also supposed to go to my office there and see the kids at day's end, so I'm hoping they get it opened by mid-morning, when the bad snow is predicted to head south.

Then another trip awaits Monday. Weather gods and border guards permitting, I will be making an after-court afternoon trip to Toronto's airport for my first time seeing [livejournal.com profile] thanatos_kalos in close to a decade. She's coming back to the US after much time in the UK, and will be changing planes at YYZ, which might require some bag-dragging expertise but also a respite from what otherwise promises to be an almost two-full-day, three-nation stay in some of the world's most annoying airports.  I may holler at one or two others about stopping by during that visit.
