I've largely given up posting birthday wishes here, because That Face Thing has made it so cheap and easy to just click a link with a candle on it, say something nice, and get it Liked within seconds.  That has largely stopped; I've gotten sick of the Motherzucker's selective filtering of my friends' entries on my default news feed, and I've adopted a workaround for it, which really does increase the chances of my seeing all friends entries.

The details are here, but the trick is to create a "list" consisting of all of your friends and preferred pages, and then change your default FB bookmark to display the "list" rather than the see-what's-good-for-you Newsfeed.  There are a few downsides to it, though. One: when you add a friend, you need to revise the list. There's also some editing to do so you don't get overwhelmed with Farmville crap and friend-added notifications from 300 people.  But the biggest downside is that the List does not display the Sidebar, which has the Birthdays. So unless you remember them on your own, or friends of the friend post about it on their own timelines, you will miss the day.

Among those I've missed, and miss having missed, since the changeover are mayiwrite and oneeyeddaruma. Fortunately, now that I've reloaded Semagic, I get the reminders at least as to LJ peeps past or present, and so I send belated wishes to mac_arthur_park and, especially, today wishes to symian.
