I'm now tracking my year-to-date Books Read on Goodreads. Keeping to roughly one a week, which seems my speed.  This week's new read, though, gets a preview, just because it's so damn well done:

Think of it as a backwards sort of Galaxy Quest: a real, familiar (but not quite) starship keeps losing all of its low-level enlisted personnel, and it turns out that a fictional TV series is interfering with their space-time continuum.  I'm only a third in, but I've already had enough laughs to last into next month.

The amazing thing is that nobody has ever really mined this concept before. Well, except for MAD magazine, ages ago:

Dispensable 1

And now, bringing the concept even fuller-circle? A cable network is adapting Redshirts AS a television series.

The meta.... it.... ::flails:: BURNS.

If you're only a third of the way through the book, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Get ready to find out how deep the rabbit hole goes. :)

Wait until you've got to...well, most of the later bits. :) I have the audiobook, read by Wil Wheaton, which really only adds to the experience. :)

Saw that in a bookstore. Was tempted to pick it up and didn't. Now am even more sorry I didn't.

I keep meaning to pick that up but I already have so many books to read. Maybe if I get through another one or two I can justify it though, hmm.
