Holy Shit Thursday

captainsblogAdvent is feeling more like Lent this year, as my denomination seems determined to inflict pain rather than invoke hope.
Yesterday, it defrocked a minister from a neighboring conference in Pennsylvania, for daring (a) to marry his own gay son in the sight of God and his congregation and (b) to not lie through his teeth and say he'd never do it again.
Never mind the hundreds of other violations of the Book of Discipline that virtually every United Methodist pastor commits, through omission if not commission, during his or her career. Those don't get the hackles of the Duck Dynasty crowd into a tizzy like Teh Gay does.
So we're down a man of God, with several other men and women warming up in the hellpen for their own trials- at least one within this conference, where our own Bishop has made clear that the Law is the Law and we can't break it, never mind what that schmuck Jesus would've done.
That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown- intolerance:P
