captainsblog: (Zoey)

For the past several days, one of the cats- Zoey, we suspect- has been pulling napkins off the dining room table, as well as other similar sized cloth items where available, and leaving them in the hallway.  Since the current set of place settings is yellow, I feel like an NFL ref running around picking up flags after penalties.

Is she trying to signal Tasha in semaphore? Who knows?

We do know they've been affected by the loss- in both good ways and bad.  We're sleeping later and better, but the routine is all off.  I've been unable to pack up Tasha's food bowl, which rests right below the Cupboard of Joy from which the kibble comes. More than once, I've almost filled it, because that's what I do; Ebony wouldn't ever eat out of it, but the cats would. So, no.  I also have resisted pulling up the runway of puppy pads we resorted to in the final weeks; once we removed the rug from the back door, the accidents almost entirely stopped, so the pads are clean, but removing them would remove the memories. So, again, no. Maybe today; I have a suddenly free morning since the subject of my 9:00 court hearing had emergency surgery yesterday and got excused.

Also, Tasha has already become the suspected source of some of the inexplicable bumps, noises and missing things around here. We usually attribute these either to Gertrude (owner of our last Rochester home who died in the house and, we believe, liked us so much she moved here with us) or Bozo (our first cat to pass back in 2005). So now there are three ghosts. We like them all.

This computer has been gorked since the new keyboard went in; I expect it's a minor issue but I haven't had the time to take the time to have it checked out. Probably tomorrow for that. If I've seemed less responsive than Eleanor to the many kind words expressed here or elsewhere, that's mainly why.

Better check to see if Zoey's called me for any penalties since I started writing this;)

I find the idea comforting of our ghost pets hanging around.

When our dog Jenny died years ago (fifteen?), I resisted for the longest possible time vacuuming the spot in front of the bookcase where she always slept. It broke my heart when I finally had to break out the upright vac and Hoover away the area of black fur accumulated there.

Well, I guess ghost pets are just as good as Mina the toy kitty that Tomaz gave when I visited him, which was soon after my cat's death. *hugs*
