Let the record reflect that February 2013 has just one full calendar day to go commencing in a bit over four hours.

And may the record record my reaction: Good riddance.

February will end with three Rochester appointments, from 11-ish a.m. until mid-afternoon, with udda thingza working their ways in before, between and after.  The day promises to be dull, cold and snowy, as much of the month has been.

Still no word on when, or if, my computer will return. We think the problem is at least partially with a fan that sucked in more than its share of cat hair and plastic parts in its recent dying throes.  I have a budget for both its estimated repair and its possible replacement but, like the government, am rather sequestered on being able to spend anything on that budget.

March awaits in just over 28 hours. Exhibition baseball has begun, and hockey season is almost half over.  Things will be looking up come Friday, because they can't look much downer.

This is a laptop, yes?

I can't imagine it being worthwhile to fix it unless it's under two years old. Have you seen the prices of new Dell laptops?

Oh, very. And as soon as I see the death certificate on this one, that's where I'll be heading. This just wasn't the week for it, and there sounded like there was some progress toward at least recovering this one as a more useful backup than the one I'm using now.

January was definitely the longest month for me. It died hard.

Glad you can bid February good riddance, though. I don't have much use for it, either.

Well, when the other 11 months have to compete against May for you, I think they just don't even bother trying;)

February is so seldom mourned when it goes.

For years, I've said that when Eliot wrote that shit about April being the cruelest month, it was clear he'd never spent a February in upstate New York.

The only reason I'm sad Feb is ending is that it means we have to find a way to pay rent. We have no money so that means a long talk with our landlord. Can't we extend Feb a while?

Also, I agree with Bill re: the laptop. If you can afford a new one, get it. Also, if you're keeping it because of what's on it, mirror it to a new drive and stick it in another machine. I'll ask hubs if he has one we can send you. We have 2 laptops we're not using. Not sure what the OS is on either one, but if it isn't Vista it has to, by default, be better than Vista.

Awwww, that is incredibly sweet, but we'll be okay- at least once the payroll fairy arrives in the dead of night. I'm still hopeful we'll be able to get the repair done to last at least long enough to get a good new system out of this perpetual refi, and in the meantime this fix is annoying but ultimately works for, well, work. About the only thing I'm missing are phone syncs and Portlandia episodes.

Wish we could help with your woes. Maybe put the landlord in touch with the Pope- after all, it was his not-so-holy Roman Emperor predecessors who stole those two days from February in the first place.
