If Nominated, I Shall Not Run.
Oct. 5th, 2012 05:33 pmI will, however, root.
That's the story of my Blitzkrieg Bop of a weekend: I've fallen off the track these past six weeks since doing the Boston 5K (though I'll begin again later this month, working up to the Turkey Trot which is now less than seven weeks out), but this time I'm planning a surgical strike at the heart of Long Island, arriving around this time tomorrow and being well on my way home by this time Sunday.
Sunday, which is almost an anagram of "Sandy." It will be the 24th anniversary of her death, and her daughter Nicole is running a half-marathon in East Meadow, where her mom and I grew up, in her honor.
It's also a Met blogger friend's 51st birthday, and she's invited me and Nicole to join her for a birthday lunch following the event. There will be other bloggers, and their spouses, in attendance. I'm told the forecast is for rain, with a high of 54F, but that's not going to stop their spirits any more than the current distance between us will.
Following the lunch, Nicole and I will head east to the small rural cemetery (rural in name more than now-oversprawled location), and, for the first time since 1988, hang out with her mom together. She has about a two-hour trip home from there; me, more like nine at that hour. But Monday's a semi-holiday, and despite being in the US and not Canada, I will spend at least a few moments giving thanks for the family I've had, have and will always be part of.
