I took some first tentative steps today, for both me and our older dog.
A friend has organized an informal, come-whenever-run-whatever event in Delaware Park tomorrow. I figured it would be a good idea to break stride a bit today before trying it for realz tomorrow, so about halfway into my usual elliptical session, I moved over to a treadmill, dialed my Couch-to-5K app back to Week 1, and tried it at a run-a-minute/walk-a-minute pace for a good 20 minutes or so.
It went fine at the time. I had this morning's Only a Game podcast on, with lots of reflections about and toward Boston, one notable one from a guardian.co.uk reporter who talked about the reactions and preparations planned for the "marathen" (as H.M. apparently prounounces it) in London tomorrow. They will be passing out black ribbons along with the bibs and are encouraging the finishers to give a hand-over-heart gesture as they go through the chute.
Not bad for a bunch of enemy combatants who actually burned down our capitol 200 years ago.

When I got home, one final round of cardio awaited. The vet encouraged us to keep Tasha more active during daylight hours so she might be more tired in the late-night hours that have highlighted her recent annoyances. So I came in from the garage with leashes in hand, and offered walkies to her and her sister.
They liked it! Hey Mikey!
Well, other than one semi-scary moment where Tasha seemed to lose her footing for no apparent reason- other than that, she kept up fine with the two of us. And I'm now a bit concerned for me, too, since my left ankle seems to be beginning a flare-up, more likely on account of the earlier running.
I'll soak it before leaving tomorrow and Advil myself before bedtime tonight. I'd hate to find that nature is starting to get in the way of my nurture at this age.
