The right-wing talking machine has been all a-Twitter (and a-Facebook and a-everything else) because the President dared to call out the Supreme Court as they decide whether to veto some, most or all of the provisions of the Affordable Health Care Act.  Here's the specific Obama quote that caused all the kerfuffle: he said that overturning it would be an “unprecedented, extraordinary step,” Obama said, “The justices should understand that in the absence of an individual mandate, you cannot have a mechanism to insure that people with preexisting conditions can actually get health care.”

All the pundits on the right, including the Oracle of Oxycontin himself, presented this as a threat to the Justices, implying that Obama was rejecting the Court's long-established right to declare legislation to be unconstitutional.  As if that wasn't enough, he proceeded to refer to the President of the United States as a "thug" for expressing his opinion on the case:

“He’s a thug,” Limbaugh said on his radio show. “I’m not trying to be provocative when I say this. I’m just quoting Bill Clinton, folks. Bill Clinton referred to Barack Obama as a Chicago thug during the 2008 presidential campaign."

So I presume that means that Ronald Reagan and both George Vaginas were "thugs" for addressing throngs of anti-abortion protesters at their annual shivas over the anniversary of Roe v. Wade where they expressed their opinions about THAT decision. Or that hundreds of Southern legislators were "thugs" for passing "nullification" statutes in response to Brown v. Board of Education, a position that current Republican candidate Ron Paul still thinks is a peachy keen idea.

Separation of powers- it's inviolable, but IOKIYAR.

----

Closer to home, I got a taste of who the "thugs" really are.

On a busy corner on my way to and from work and gym, kittycorner to the Wegmans where Eleanor works, is the Amherst branch of the somewhat ironically named Amigone Funeral Home.  For the past two days, it's been festooned in American flags around the entirety of its corner lot.  As I drove home tonight, during the calling hours in question, I realized why.

A hometown boy, Staff Sergeant William R. Wilson III, was killed by small arms fire in Afghanistan last week, and he's been returned home for family and friends to say their final goodbyes.

Yet they, apparently, will not be the only ones signing the guest register. Because in addition to those American flags tonight, the corner was well and truly guarded by numerous motorcyclists, protecting those family and friends from the lowest of the low on the thuggery scale:

GOD HATES AMERICA & IS KILLING
OUR TROOPS IN HIS WRATH.
Military funerals have become pagan orgies of
idolatrous blasphemy, where they pray to the
dunghill gods of Sodom & play taps to a fallen fool.
This message to be preached in respectful, lawful proximity
to the memorial of Sgt. William R. Wilson III
Friday, April 06, at 09:15 a.m.
Amigone Funeral Home,
5200 Sheridan Drive, Amherst, NY

The bastards, more likely than not, will not show up. They flee like cockroaches in the face of genuine light on their actions. But if I had a three-hour radio show with an alleged large audience, I'd be more likely to refer to these assholes as "thugs" than the duly elected President of the United States.

Well done, Sgt. Wilson, good and faithful servant. As for you, Fred Phelps, die in a fire with much gnashing of teeth.

I was very proud to be part of a counter-protest to Phelps' a-holes a few years ago at the funeral of a local airman. Luckily for them (we rednecks don't do anti-American very well), they decided to cancel the trip here.

I had the honor of attending a counter-protest against Fred's F*ckheads, in Erwin, TN. Perhaps Erwin's reputation is more widely known than I thought, as his group cancelled their trip down here to the Volunteer State.

One of the last times the Ilk of Phelps were in Oklahoma, they got a couple of ill timed, "mysterious" flat tires that no tire center in town had a replacement for. They had to spend hundreds of dollars to have their hate-vans towed to the next town over and missed the funeral they were going to protest, darn all the luck.

Yeah, I love this state.
