Not TOO pretentious an entry, huh, MG?

This post, less so.  I spent the pregame hours outside of Moosewood Restaurant, which might be as anti-Super a place to have existed on the planet at that moment.

This detour was a happy one, waiting for, and finally meeting, my longtime friend-by-bandwidth [livejournal.com profile] angledge, who's been decamped in Albany for most of the past month and finally made it to Ithaca just as I was passing through there this afternoon.  She's just as fun, and real, and All That as I would've expected.

But no pictures of us:(  Instead, a few from just before:

The Vegan Mahal itself. We'd planned to meet there, but alas, we were spurned; like Portlandia's Around the World in 80 Plates, they change their menus completely over during the day and couldn't serve in the late afternoon.  So we ate at Joes; it was a townie dive in my Ithaca days, and the surprising Next Big Dining Thing in Ang's, but it's now bounced back in between both of those extremes to "quiet and normal," and we had a nice fireside chatting spot there.

Anyway, back to the Moose. It's in a converted school building known, since my day, as the DeWitt Mall, and it has more to offer than just the lack of meat:

I touched a real meteorite!  This is part of the Sagan Walk, a series of billyuns and billyuns of space-stuff molecules spaced out, at proportionate planetary intervals, from the center of the Ithaca Commons under the original direction of Dr. Carl himself.

Yet I can't look to the stars when there's stuff to read, and the DeeWitt Mall (as I still call it in honor of an old WVBR radio commercial) contains not one but two old-school brick-and-mortar bookstores, with the former location of one of them, seemingly, still open in a building right next door. One of them was open Sundays, and I walked in and through it waiting for Ang, and saw a place that was not just lively but living:

That's a book club going on in there, behind the Dangerous Books sign....

...and one of their window displays, notable for the reading-buffalo (the place is called Buffalo Street Books after the highway on that side of the building) ....

... as is this one, for the bit of Bradbury it contains.  (Sadly, no copies of Joss, or Kate, or Fly into Fire, but I bet they'd be receptive to each.)

----

As I made the turn onto South Hill to get out of town, there was a Ron Paul rally on the Aurora Street edge of the Commons. That might have been about Pluto on the Sagan Walk in terms of an appreciative local audience. I did salute them by rolling down my window and yelling, "GO RU PAUL!"

I'm now Supering at my sister's before heading up to Syracuse for work in the morning.  I hope Madonna sticks around in case the refs make any Borderline calls.

I need one of those "Danger, Contains Books" signs for my house. I'll bet it's more effective than a rabid pit bull and a loaded shotgun, especially down here.

This version might be a little easier to manipulate:

It was awesome to meet you IRL :-)

But my car's low tire pressure light came on repeatedly on my drive back to Albany :-(

Then I spilled leftover Joe's on my sweater >:-(

Alas! It was still a great day.

Likewise:)

Those idiot lights are so much easier to cope with when it's not your own car:)

Sorry about the Joe's, but it was far better than it being Hot Truck spilling inside said sweater;)
