Just. Like. That.
Nov. 9th, 2011 12:05 pmAn old friend from Rochester just called. We'd met up with her on our visit to our old church there back in September.
One of that congregation's longtime former ministers, the Reverend Margie Mayson, passed away suddenly and tragically the other day. She'd been in perfect health, was on a plane to Portland (we're not even sure which one at this point, though I'm guessing yours, Kristen) to visit one of her daughters who she'd just married, and an embolism got her.
She was not the celebrant at our wedding, although I believe she assisted in Emily's christening. Yet she was a longtime influence on our faith in our final years there- a gentle, funny and inspiring speaker- and demonstrator- of what we did and do believe.
Neither our old church nor her last one- St. Paul's United Methodist of Ithaca, where she'd been since 2008- has anything posted about it yet. I pray there will be a memorial, and that I will be able to share in the memories at it.
Life's what it says on the tin, people:

ETA. The Conference ("diocese" to you Catchelikz) has confirmed her passing, which was indeed while traveling to Oregon. Arrangements are not yet set. Thanks to those who have offered words of kindness on both of today's remembrances.
