I haven't had any days in court since my trius interruptus late last week, but this week, in many ways, has been worse.  I've had multiple deadlines for ::shudder:: WRITING STUFF.

You'd think this would be busman's holiday material for someone like me, who can crank out bloggy-woggy stuff nearly (if not more than nearly) every day. You would be wrong. When more's at stake, and the required words from me are intertwined with other peoples' writings (be they my opponent's, or a court's, or a precedent's), it is a much harder proposition. Yet I've mostly managed, through today, anyway.

One set of things had to be in by the end of the day Thursday. I ran them to my opponent and then downtown with an hour or two to spare.

The next had to be filed yesterday. I'd put it off until I met with the out-of-town client, who was supposed to be in town on Friday. Came to find out, as I was literally parallel parking at an unrelated stop right before our meeting, that she was 40-plus miles the wrong side of Buffalo and I'd have to work things out without her personal input. That sucka hit the docket a bit before 7:00 last night.

Today, I just puttered through some more routine stuff, but there's a Major Deadline of next Wednesday, for which I want to get papers finalized and filed no later than Monday, and for which the client did not forward some essential information until almost 4:00 today.  So, yeah. Working tomorrow.

Once that's in, though, it's back to the more routine routine of actually showing up in court to deal with actual live human beings. That's its own kind of stress, but I'm more used to it, overall.

(I also got through another major section of line edits for someone today, and spent my cardio time reading the epub of one of my last major editing jobs. Which, so far, has yielded only one minor error but, also, one final author insertion of one of My Freakin Lines. Believe me, the latter more than cancels out the former:)

The weekend's other deadlines involved medical insurance. Among my puttering was filling out the annual, or in this case tri-mesterial, re-application for our family COBRA plan through Eleanor's old company. (Three months from now, she'll be covered under the Wegmans plan, Em through RIT, and me under something-or-other through the Bar or the Chamber; for now, though, we had to navigate the various options.)

Emily called late this morning about her application for the school plan. I went through a bunch of questions with her, and we discussed how things will work for these odd three months when she'll actually have double coverage. I explained that she can still get OB-GYN type stuff through her current provider here, or from whoever is in-network under the RIT plan, whichever is easier and/or cheaper.  Fine fine fine.

Then, she asked, "So, Dad, what about the doctor?"

I thought this meant she was misundertaking my explanation, so I started to go over it again.

Daddddddd.....

No. She wanted to know how she could go about seeing tonight's Doctor Who episode now that she's away from home.

ObiWan has trained her well;)

Because every day of social work meant multiple reports in triplicate, I'm more comfortable with writing. Although, as you know from my previous entry, going to Family Court can be entertaining in a very black comedy sort of way.

Glad you got things straightened out with Em. It's very important that a girl know "who" her dr. is.
