The PeeCee mentality is, "But what if someone wants to display the URL on the right? Or upside-down? Or backwards?". So these options are added and enabled by bizarre keyboard combinations.

The Apple mentality is, "What is the simplest?" And that's what you get.

If you have a chance sometime, read "The Design of Everyday Things" by Donald Norman. Interface design is fascinating, and it's amazing how often we screw it up on everything from the doors of public buildings (how often have you been confronted by a glass panel bisected by a horizontal metal bar. Pull? Push? Which side?) to automatic coffee makers.
