I am really getting tired of my computer waking me up on the dot of 3 a.m. because I either didn't see, or didn't pay attention to, a Windows Update icon in my traybar. You never know until you hit "install" whether it's going to force another reboot on you, and I had a bit much to get to yesterday to go through that bullshit, so I let it go, put the thing (and me) to sleep, and yet sure enough, come 3 a.m., .... grunt, whirr, da-dinnnnng!

Since I've been on a run of really weird dreams of late (two nights ago, a mixture of soft porn and a Get Smart episode, plus all kinds of people coming back into my head who I haven't thought of in 10 to 20 years), I'm wondering whether there are any OTHER updates being downloaded through the ether I should know about.

Hmmmm, let's see here: View update history.

Well, okay, why not?

Damn. I knew I should have turned off that Skype thing in general settings.

*giggles*

The LoLCat pack would be very helpful, though, I'm sure!

Well yeah, except all of THOSE little shits sleep right through the 3 a.m. reboot.

It does, however, keep them sufficiently on their toes to demand a morning feeding several minutes earlier most times.

Just after you've finally gotten back to sleep, am I right?

Snork!

Why would a computer wake up to tell you to apply patches? That's just insane!

It doesn't. It applies them itself and then reboots, which is what wakes me up.

That's even worse!

Can't you make it stop?

Did. Finally. I think, anyway.

It's a "drink this it's good for you" setting from default Vista that got dumped on me the last time my guru fixed a crash. Now it's back to installing and downloading only when I tell it to, which is "not recommended," for some oddball reason.
