Driving down the side street that I cut through daily to get to my office (it's called Brompton Road and is about as pretentious as the name sounds), I got mooned by a kid playing soccer on his front lawn. Not on purpose, I don't think, but knowing that didn't really improve the view all that much.

I next picked up a few things at Office Max, one of them being an on-sale package of three reams of copy paper. While it wasn't enough to need a cart or basket at first, the weight of the thing got to be a bit much when I got stuck behind the World's Slowest Customer at the only open register. Yes, ma'am, they really do expect you to pay for your product when they're done ringing it up. And no, the scanner can't tell which of your 38 keytags is  the right one for the rewards program until you find it and wave it at it.  Another employee then came over to open another register, which the slick bastard behind me, with his one two-ounce package of printer ink, jumped to before I had a chance to move.  On the bright side, he paid more for that shit ounce for ounce than the finest perfume costs, and I, for my trouble, paid nothing, thanks to a freebie coupon from, yes, a rewards program.

Then home, for the first spring mowing of the back forty muddy. An hour or so in, Eleanor came back from doing her own gardening out front, with a package of utterly petrified bread that one of the dogs had gotten hold of. Displaying it proudly, she asked what the best wine would be to go with it. Took a second or two, but I finally replied with, "Oh, I think a nice California reeks-ling."

Enjoyed last weekend's Wait Wait, with John Waters and an odd story about superhero capes. Still waiting for the download of the next one, in which I will hear Dark Helmet's father's uncle's cousin's brother-in-law's college roommate on one of the segments.  To be followed by more Who, unless the Royal Bits are pre-empting it.

It never fails to annoy me that it's almost assuredly cheaper to buy a new printer than to replace the ink or toner in one.

*sigh*

There was a time when Lexmark put out new ones as such a loss leader that, when mine broke and I tried to replace it under warranty, the store told me they were out of stock and on a monthlong backorder. This particular model came with a full black cartridge, and middlemen figured out that compared to ordering replacement cartridges, it was cheaper to buy the whole thing, remove the cartridge for resale, and then sell the rest of the unit on eBay for pure profit at whatever price they could get.

I'm sadly unsurprised. Printer ink is supposedly the most expensive substance on the planet, by weight.
