Falling apart and out of warranty
Apr. 18th, 2011 11:09 amI know, things could be worse. For several of you or your loved ones, I know, they potentially ARE a lot worse right now. Still, though; this getting old and forgetful shit gets to be, ummm, what was I saying? What did I come in here for?
Two nights ago, Eleanor made a fish dish with spinach. Know how sometimes that veggie leaves that acidic taste in your mouth? Well, now it's two days later and it's still there. I've never had problems processing the stuff before, but this is, just, weird. (There are other manifestations of the product, but I'll spare you those.)
Then, yesterday morning, that 3,500th post came close to being my last. The coding for the Youtube and the embedded CAKE pic were misbehaving badly, cutting off whole chunks of the entry, and generally grabbing all of my early-morning attention to the point where Eleanor finally came out of the shower and said, "Um, did you leave the kettle on?" I had indeed, down to bare metal-on-burner, and while there was no fire, the smoke from all that steam finally set off the alarm. We aired the place out readily enough (45 mph winds do help with that), but then this morning, when I poured my morning cuppa from using water out of that kettle, it tasted even worse than the still-there spinach taste. Finally, I realized: I was drinking cast iron. Yum.
Fortunately, there's always vinegar and elbow grease ready to the task, and I cleared off both yesterday's remnants and a good layer of general hard-water crud off the bottom of that kettle. My official taster and I both pronounced a cold cup of it from the spout to be good, so I reboiled water for a new pot....
and managed to burn my left wrist with the steam coming out of the fecking thing.
Blog control to Major Tom.... blog control to Major Tom.... got any of those protein pills left? They've GOT to be safer than me setting foot in this kitchen again:P

Date: 2011-04-18 03:35 pm (UTC)I've wrapped a cloth napkin round it to cut down the amount of that, which makes my wrist look like a cross between Senor Wences and Charles Nelson Reilly.
You have no idea who either of those are, do you?
