Early spring, my ass.
Granted, they warned us about this. Some of you easterer of us even got a taste of it earlier in the week. Yet by sunrise, our promised 3-6 inches was barely a coating, and the threat of a tangled morning rush hour (such as things are around here) was another All Talk, No Action incident.
Thus, my only roadie of the week, and a late one at that, should have been CAKE! A walk in the PARP!
Unless All The Things in the forecast were wrong, anyway.
Noon and a hawf: arrive an hour before first appointment, two-plus before the 3:00 one I'd planned everything else around. File documents downtown, note that the snow is pic-king up JUST a little. But I'm in a parking garage at this point, so it's kinda hard to tell.
1:15- the 1:30 appointment is running late and begs out of it until after my 3. I agree, because I'mstupid nice that way.
(Funny, you don't look)2-ish- show up an hour early at my home away from home on the east side, where I'm plied with baskets of chorklit and questions from my buddy's new officemate who looks frighteningly like Dexter Morgan will when he's in his early 50s. Make note of the potential in this for later.
3, quickly becoming 3:30- Client no show, client no call, client no respond to phone messages. Trip within one quick stop of now being useless. Return to car for extra business card to leave with paperwork; MY, it's snowing harder now, and the early-rush-hour traffic is awful bad.
4-and-a-foo- At least HE's there. And has what I need from him. The car, though, is completely encased in an exoskeleton of sleet by the time I get back out to it, and it's now full-on afternoon rush in downtown Rochester (such as THAT is).
5- Trainer calls my cell from the burbs of B-lo just as I'm getting on the homebound 90. Every other evening student has bailed on account of weather, illness, injury or all of the above. I agree to reschedule, seeing how I'm unsure if I'm even going to be back to Erie County by 6:15.
5:20- Unscheduled stop in Batavia to carve my car. Ice has accumulated on the wipers that's an inch thick, making for limited visibility and a cranky wiper motor.
Yet, just like that, it gets better. The final half hour of the voyage goes in just about half an hour, I'm home safe and warm, and tomorrow, once again, is another day.
