I pulled a double shift at church this morning. Usually when I assist on the first Sunday, it's just at the later service that Eleanor and I go to anyway, but this week was a sanctified special of some kind where communion was offered at both services, so I set the alarm for 7-something and rolled in somewhere round 8:30.

As is my custom, I went up to the lectern before the service started, to be sure All the Holy Things that I'd need were there: bulletin, hymnal, scripture reading in the desired translation. When I got up there, I realized I was still clutching my first, and much-needed, cuppa cawfee. Hoping not to offend anyone by that, I proceeded to attempt offending the one or two earlybirds even more.

"A reading," I annouced, "from the first book of Timothy."

Horton, that is;) Damn good joe. Timbits.

I tried remembering some passages from that epistle, since I wasn't reading actual Bible here:

"Be a good soldier for Christ."

"Run the good race."  (Okay, that was Second Timothy. Sue me in an ecclesiastical court.)

"And whatever you do, don't drive drunk after a late-night Sabres game."

Otto and Cheryl laughed, but honestly. I don't know how much longer I'm gonna be able to get away with this.
