The latest mon-snow-strosity that was supposed to get here last night, then in the middle of the night, wasn't hardly here at feeding time this morning. Back steps weren't even fully coated.

It's here now.  Fortunately, so am I.

But I've got to go out into it, to claim a package sent to me yesterday from Rochester via FedEx.  I hope:

That's right. Packages between Rochester and Buffalo are affected by weather delays in Memphis, because that's how their hub-and-spoke system rolls. Or doesn't.

I remember an entry in Esquire magazine's Dubious Achievement Awards (which I sorely miss, much as I don't miss this man laughing) about a Wall Street firm in the 1980s, where the office mailroom delivery system was so bad, they would FedEx interoffice mail between floors. Hub-and-spoke being immutable, the envelopes would go down to the lobby, onto a waiting van, out to the airport, flown to Memphis, put on a return flight, into another van, into the lobby, and up to the higher or lower floor.... and they still beat the guy with the rolling cart.

And this is why we need to worry about carbon footprints these days. Yow.

I'm still trying to figure out why, in this electronic age, there are still bicycle couriers racing documents between law offices and courthouses.

While I find the hub thing ridiculous, I can vouch for the high winds. It was crazy across the whole state yesterday!
