Pfft. That was the sound of the Storm of the Century going all
14:58
14:59

15:00 on us overnight. They'd already started hedging their bets in the mid-evening, saying the one to two feet might be more like 6-12 inches. Ultimately, they got the 1-2 part right; that's about the total accumulation here in inches so far. We're plowed, powered and a little pissed at being manipulated once again.  The radio honks were right on the air defending themselves- "Hey! It's still slick out there, and if we hadn't closed all the schools and made you run out for French toast supplies last night, your morning commute would've really SUCKED!"  They're the same Teabagger radio types who hate government spending but are the first to complain if their road doesn't get plowed or the trains don't run on time. So of course, the DOT having called in all the troops for early deployment last night to avoid complaining, there were fewer of them available to plow the slower but steady snow that came later in the overnight.

Even better, word comes from the south that the creepy little rodent didn't see his shadow, so winter should soon be over. Here are my two quotes about that:

"To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote. "- Bill Murray, the star of Groundhog Day, in, um, something else.

"Terri wants Phil the Groundhog to know that if he's joking, Bill can take him out with a head shot @ 1000 yds."- [livejournal.com profile] headbanger118

Emily sent us the email of fail last night. That, only, because she saw it on Failblog. I think it's feckin' awesome. While she didn't paint it, she was in the tunnels at RIT while it was being painted:

I'd love to show that to my longago friend Kevin Williams, one of the TV weathermen in Rochester, and tell him it was a last-minute replacement for his Forecast of Doom last night.  Kevin gets a lit-tle too excited about storms like this one (which, admittedly, was pretty damn bad before it petered out west of here); during a lower-than-normal snow winter a few years back, he actually bought a snowmaking machine and installed it on his cul-de-sac. He swears the neighbors loved it.

Right. Work, gym, pray, love. Something like that.

Okay, that is nearly as good as painting a bluescreen of death on something. :-)

It's just not fair. Your snow keeps being delivered to us. (Actually, CVirtue seems to be signing for it.)
