Nobody knows!
Jan. 30th, 2013 10:24 amToday, that refers to two things. Most directly, it's a (now-outdated) QI reference, but it fits, because Nobody Knows! when the final of J series is going to air. So to maintain our Stephen fix, Eleanor ordered St. Trinians, the recent reboot of the long-standing series of British comics and films making fun of the whole British stiff-upper-lip prepatory school business.
It's full of famed BBC and RSC actors playing either tarts or twits (in the case of Rupert Everett, both), but Stephen plays himself, essentially- quizmastering a school version of QI that's worked into the "well, we HAVE to have one" plot of the thing. Although watching him go all Emo in this scene is fun and all-
- the best injoke in the whole business is this one, where they show how, exactly, the Geeks are feeding the answers to the Posh Totties in the competition: not by using Google, but this-

And that, you may recall, was the search engine originally named, and still hostily hosted in the UK, by none other than....
Jeeves.

My other Nobody Knows! question of the day is, "When am I going to get everything I need to do our 2012 taxes?"
Despite the paperlessness of so much of banking and such, the IRS remains preoccupied with 19, 19, 1985 and still requires the essential year-end tax things to be sent out in paper. For our purposes, three form series should have overloaded our mailbox by now: W-2s showing employment earnings (one received, one not but able to be imported online); assorted 1099 and 1098-whatever forms showing our entitlement to deduct mortgage interest, taxes and, especially, take a large credit for part of Emily's tuition; and a ton of 1099s for me from clients. Generally, these have to be sent by either the 15th or 31st of January. It is now the 30th, and we have received one (of two) of the W-2s; maybe three of the close to a dozen assorted 1098/99 series forms for personal interest, deductions and credits; and none. Zero. NADA. from any client in the way of a 1099.
You might think this has to do with the averted Fiscal Cliff and a need to wait for updated forms to reflect those after-last-minute changes.
::KLAXON as the screen flashes ::
Those changes all affected 2013 taxes and beyond. None affected 2012, at least none that required these forms to be held up.
So here I sit, broken taxed,
Tried to file and heard a klaxon....

Date: 2013-01-31 04:24 pm (UTC)And you know, I bet I could get the remaining data _now_ if I bothered to register to use my lender's website. Because yes, I too wait for these forms so that I can file for my refund.
