I had not one, but two Functions I planned to attend tonight. I'd cleared time for them; told Eleanor I probably wouldn't be home when she got home close to seven; even got to and back from the gym unusually early so I could go to both.  One, a Friend's (and her Bossman's) Banned Book Week event at a North Buffalo library; the other, a newly-formed networking club's group viewing of the Social Network movie about Facebook and its founding.

Alas, God-Fate-Time-Whatever had other plans.

I wound up making four different runs to my office today. The first was for an 11:00 appointment I was 98% certain to be stood up for, and, ultimately, I was. The mail was still not in by the time I'd given them a courtesy 30-minute delay, so rather than leave altogether, I made a quick run down the street to a friend's business (okay, it's a liquor store, arright?, I was looking for the Smoking Loon Chardonnay we got served at Bullie's on Sunday night and wound up with something ::hic:: pretty nicely close), and got back just as the letter carrier was leaving.

One item of substance came in that delivery: a regular monthly check for a client from a reliable defendant.  I tucked it away and headed home.... forgetting completely about the check until three-plus hours later, when cardio was starting to call me so I could make it on time  to all my evening engagements.

It wasn't tucked in the pad I'd brought with me; or in the library book I'd carried in case the wait got really long; or anywhere I could find in the car, the house, or on either of the last two trips back to the orifice.  As of this moment, it's still lost in space. (It will take a quick, but embarrassing, call to their lawyer to get it replaced within a couple of days, but I wanted to exhaust all possibilities before doing that.)

So the closest I got to a Banned Book tonight was my own prior restraint of my own financial reading list; and Zuckerberg will have to wait for a paid matinee before I'll get to see how much of a jerk he really is. (I already kinda know that, between reading Mezrich's book that was the basis for the movie, and the recent New Yorker article about him and it, and, well, generally his mucking around constantly with the site, and my privacy settings, and pretty much everything else).

Instead, I was here when my beloved got home from work, and we shared stories, the aforementioned wine, and some yummy souped-up leftovers, just the two of us.  In the end, I think that worked out just fine for me:)

Ha! It sounds like you had a nice night, so that's worth it! Very few people actually showed up. I think the weather really hurt us. I'm sure more folks would have at least walked in off the street in Elmwood Village if it weren't for the fact that no one was out walking on the street.

An irritating day, but perhaps a nice night. Sometimes staying in is well worth it, especially after an unexpectedly trying day (I'm thinking I may do that tonight, honestly)

Also: Zuckerberg = asshole, and scary to boot. One more reason I try to avoid Facebook use.

Not only scary, but frighteningly clueless about what constitutes a Good Idea.

I'm starting to get The Questions in my sidebar, and while they beat another piled-on sponsored ad for some redneck conservative cause, the ones they're feeding me are just WEIRD. How's this for a combination, which are the three I'm getting right now?
