seeing someone wearing this t-shirt, which I am almost certainly going to order:

It's apparently from some show called the It Crowd, which I assume someone is going to tell me I need to be watching.

Other than that, I was run from pillar to post, from before 9 until just about 6, and my desk still looks like a bomb hit it. Just a slightly different-looking bomb than was ticking there 12 hours ago.

On the bright side: Emily got her CARE package, I now have her mailing address in case any of yas want it, and despite the million and a half distractions, I accomplished basically everything I set out in my travels to do today, plus cranked out at least a few of the stripes and solids that had been with me behind the ol' 8-ball as of first thing this morning.

----

Didn't have much of a reunion with Em today; her Tuesday/Thursday classes are long and she had to come back a ways to get to the dorm loading area, so I saw her and one of her roommates only long enough for me to hand over the pack-age and us then to be on our ways. One striking thing, though, from when I was waiting for her was just how prevalent ASL is in the whole college community there. Academically, NTID is a separate school, but its students are integrated throughout all of the facilities, and it is immensely cool just to watch this totally foreign language being spoken before your very eyes. I'd taken a basic ASL course ages ago, and had hoped Em and I might do one over the summer, but my brief sightings of it today made it even more a priority for me, so I can rise above the level of the Dumb Shrug in response to conversations there that might be directed at me.

Almost on cue, on the way home, 107.7 the Lake played the CSN version of "Wooden Ships." (I've always been a bit more partial to the Airplane setting of it, but theirs is great, too.) That first line works as well for ASL as for anything else:

If you smile at me, I will understand, 'cause that is something everybody everywhere does in the same language.

I have that shirt! My brother and sil gave it to me last Christmas because they thought it would be perfect for me. (I cannot tell you that you need to watch IT Crowd, though, seeing as how I've never watched it myself.)

The IT crowd is something my husband enjoys very much, given that is his job description. The really scary thing is that there is a character named Moss on there that he can do a *spot on* impersonation of - and it makes me giggle. If you enjoy Blacks Books or most British comedies, and have worked in personnel or tech, it is very, very good. I think it goes a bit over the top at times, but not enough to dampen the laughs.

Thinkgeek.com is the greatest site in the world. I have a widhlist a mile long, and that shirt is on it.

I really want to learn ASL. I took a rudimentary class when I was in middle school, and I've wanted to become fluent ever since. I really need to find a class around here, and someone to practice with...

You should watch The IT Crowd. Seasons 1-3 are on Netflix, if you're into that sort of thing.

You need to be watching the IT Crowd. (It's the I-T crowd, like internet technology. Punny!) It's on Netflix streaming. It's like the British equivalent of the Big Bang Theory. I watched it all earlier this year when I had the flu in a huge binge. Hilarious.
