Countdowns
Aug. 24th, 2010 05:17 pmOr should that be counts-down?
A week from tomorrow, Emily heads east on what is essentially a one-way trip. It's only an hour away, and I'm already there almost every week, but still. It all, even now, seems so abstract, perhaps because of how much of the information now passes from them to her (and occasionally to us) through the Interether rather than with actual tangible paper notifications.
One of those just arrived yesterday: The Bill. Or rather, a late payment notice, fresh from Friday, arrived. They took the late payment charge off as soon as I emailed, bless them. Once the rather huge sums of aid and loans get knocked off, it's only a hair over $1,500 for the first of her three quarters (they will switch to more conventional semesters during her time there), but it took a bit of scrambling to get even that amount of funding cleared and ready to go for her.
It would have been much less stressful on me, at least, if this had been an off week (as I had long planned for it to be), or even just a quiet end of August downtime. It hasn't been. Sparing you the details (at least here), suffice it that I had no fewer than three major commitments on my mind at 7 this morning, worked hard all day at making progress on all of them, and as of this moment, only effectively cleared one from the coming week. That means there is still a good chance I will be unable to go with Eleanor and Emily for the load-out and other events of mid-next week. I'm still trying, though.

But ah, my foes and oh, my friends,
It gives a lovely light.
