Just some updates before I go....
Aug. 15th, 2010 11:56 amgo clean a fish tank, do a metric tonne of wash, etc., etc.,:
Em got home from the late 16th century just fine a bit before 9 last night, with no dents or scratches on the TARDIS. They had a great time. She came home with a full-size wooden swoard, doubtless pulled from a stone somewhere on the Sterling grounds, and somehow left my gas tank with more fuel in it than there was when she left.
I was looking over Ye Olde Programme to see how many of the performers I recognized from prior years. Sadly, the Bille did not include one of my favorites- Leonardo's brother Bob Davinci, who fixed me up onstage in a costume much like this one last time we were there. But some new gigs have appeared, which I hope to catch next year:
Giacomo the Jester- magic, ropewalking and extremely obnoxious behavior.
Zilch the Tory Steller- he tells stories with a twist; he talks in spoonerisms.
Zoltan the Adequate- performing bizarre geek magic tempered with more traditional magic trappings. Brilliant? Amazing? No-just Adequate!
and the one I just can't think of missing for its sheer lack-of-minimalism:
Looney Lucy- like Venus, but with arms.

The other update from yesterday concerns Our Top Story, the perfect opportunity to break out my new icon for this entry, lovingly stolen just the other day from
firynze:
They busted the wrong guy. Or at least they think they did, leading to this morning's dismissal of the murder charges against the guy they SWATted down yesterday:
City Court Judge Patrick M. Carney granted Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita's request during a court appearance this morning.
"I am not going to prosecute someone for a quadruple homicide unless I'm absolutely sure that he did it," Sedita told the judge. "And I'm not absolutely sure."
The dismissal of charges against Johnson and the comments of authorities seemed to indicate that law enforcement was back to square one in finding the shooter.
Sedita said his office and police "desperately" need the help of the public in solving the crime. "There is a person out there in this community who shot eight people. This is a very dangerous person. We need people to come forward with information about this crime," he said. "There were some 100 to 200 people in the bar last night. There are multiple eyewitnesses. Nobody has come forward, nobody is cooperating, except a few people."
I never understood this Stop Snitching bullshit even when it came to drug dealers, but come on, people. This is as dangerously deadly as it is wrong.
Meanwhile, the local paper seems to be going out of its way to drop the ball on covering this now-international news:
Maybe the DA feels that way, but the layout editor still hasn't bothered to take the full picture of the initial suspect off the article or the home page (I cropped his head off of it, because hey, why is he newsworthy at this point?). As for "related" stories? Every one of those "links" has simply pointed back to the paper's home page, from 6-ish this morning until a few seconds ago. You can find them if you use the search function, but WTF is with that?

Finally, for anyone who hasn't seen it on Eleanor's blog or my FB page, here's how Emily's Gee It's So Good I Could Faint hairdo wound up looking:
We've also cleared up some confusion about when, exactly, she's supposed to be at RIT. It's the week before Labor Day, not the day after. As in two weeks from Wednesday. This is going to take some extra fast getting-used-to.

Date: 2010-08-16 01:24 am (UTC)As Eleanor mentioned in response to one of his comments, we're contemplating a journey in your direction in about a month, when a West Coast Friend is scheduled to visit the Hub of the Universe. Coolers and dry ice permitting, we could bring the pork in y'all's direction, instead, if you wouldn't mind a meetup between 91 and 128 somewhere:)

Date: 2010-08-16 02:47 pm (UTC)Man, that's a lot of fail in that case. I can't believe no one has an idea of who did it, or is coming forward. That's...unspeakably awful.
Also, I've heard that Zoltan the Adequate is really quite acceptable. Adequate, even.
