I'm not even supposed to be here today!

Tonight at 7:10, a ballgame will begin in Boston and I am not there.

Nothing unusual about that. In my lifetime, it's happened that way something like 4,100 times (not counting post-season appearances, which, recent history aside, are still much easier to count;) while my me-too count for Fenway remains stuck on zero.

I have been on the inside once- for The Tour, on a day the Sox weren't playing. So I've seen the Monster and the Pole and even what was then Manny's private exit. Since then, I've been to no fewer than five other major league parks, including both infested in those years by my own team of choice, but it's still not the same.

Tonight would've begun the Great Northern American Ballpark Tour. Four Sundays from now, it would've ended in Seattle, likely with me pretty damn sleepy.

The idea's not dead. I just conceived it way too late in the current year to get hooked up with a book deal to make it happen.  By early 2011, there will be another year's schedule released, and that will be the time to coordinate it, pitch it, and SOMETIME during the year, do it.

As compensation, I will make it to Flushing at least once this remaining summer- and Fenway, too, if certain things fall nicely into place. 

There's not even a Met game today or tonight to console me, not that it would've been much consolation the way they're playing of late.

Instead, it's off to the gym, the vet, the store later today- and maybe back to court tomorrow for more filings, before we host Fam de Cam on Saturday.
