I promisedellettra I would give her a birthday something if she stayed off the death sticks, as she's been trying so hard to do the past couple of weeks. Since I haven't heard otherwise, and have immense faith in my friends, here 'tis.

It was only about a year ago that she discovered this incurable disease of mine called Base Ball, so she may not be familiar with the Terry Cashman song displayed at the end of this post, which provides the melody for these new lyrics of mine. Whether she's heard the song before or not, it will be stuck in her head for a week now, just as it's bound to be in mine, so enjoy- if that's the word:

She came north from Choctaw,
And not long after we saw
A smart and sweet young lady on the ‘Net.
Her path has seem some turnin’-
From doctors to an attorney-
But words and art were what we had to get!

We're talkin' Kristen!
Socks and water-rafters!
Talkin’ Kristen!
With beers and Scrabble after!
To read her is to love her, don’t you see?
She doesn’t look much older, not to me,
So happy birthday…. to  Ms. KKB!

Her life is full of happies,
But sometimes joined by crappies,
Of crying kids and neighbors’ dogs who bark.
To seek out more frustration,
She joined the Red Sox Nation
And better get her ass to Fenway Park!

We're talkin' baseball!
With Kristen in the bleachers
Talkin' baseball!
She’s got the finest teachers
Who know the rules and just how bad it gets
(I say that as a follower of Mets)
So happy birthday, but not in person…. Yet!

Now her good friend’s got a baby,
Well, she swore he was the Sweetest-Ever Kid.
And her kitties play with her…. feet, (yeah, that’s it!)
When they fight her for the bed.
And she’s only up the coast from Willie Mays,
These are the days!

Well, she’s a little older,
The nights a little colder,
And Portland is, as usual, soaked with rain
We send love from the Mets
Pray she’s off the cigarettes
And love her heart and hands and words and brain!

Her family and friends!
Talkin’ Kristen!
The playlist never ends!
She has a real compelling history,
We hope her day and year start happily,
So happy birthday…. to  Ms. KKB!
