I didn't even post about this the other day. One can only complain so much when the same things break over and over, but the quick-and-dirty fix of a week ago proved to be a quick-and-cold fix of the water heater. I grimaced, looked to see when I'd have a suitable pile of green folding money for the task, and scheduled it for Friday. The past two days have been showers at the gym (and for Eleanor, at our neighbor's- thank you, Sally:), handwashed dishes, and our new front burners getting a good workout heating hot water to be transported down the hall for shaving and such.
That all happened, and began, on Tuesday. Yesterday brought some quicker-than-expected revenue in my world, so I left word for first thing today to see if they could move up the install.
Can't, they said. It's on a truck on its way here. Except the truck got here early, so they are installing it as we speak.
There's nothing like a good disaster to impress you with the need to maintain an emergency fund, so our first priority after paying this, and our other remaining July bills (which, blessedly, don't include any more major quarterly ones like car insurance), is to sock away at least a grand for such contingencies. I know, we should have at least two months' worth, but it's a grand more than we've ever managed to get ahead before, and that, as they say, is something.
When they finish, I'm off to the gym again, but I will soak my sorry ass in my own tub when I'm done:)
