* My Who Review, a coupla posts down, now has what I hope is a better-resemblance picture of Amy to compare with our friend Kim. It really comes out more when Amelia is smiling, which, given that she spent most of the episode being chased by pastel-colored exterminators, required a bit of hunting to finally get.

* Somewhere over the weekend, 107.7 The Lake played the Steely Dan song "My Old School," which has always held some curiosity for me as to the backstory. I'd always figured it was a slam at one of the guys' high schools, but it actually turns out to be about an experience that Becker and Fagen had when they were both at Bard College in Annandale, New York  in the late 1960s. A late-night dustup between the townie cops and the musicians, apparently with college complicity in their arrests, was the subject of the whole messy business, but the story about it contained one really surprising fact: that the drummer for their original band went on to his own career, of possibly more fame and fortune, outside the musical realm.

Care to take a stab at it?

[Poll #1553189]

Answer later.

* Eleanor recharged Emily's pink hair over the weekend, and it got rave reviews in church yesterday from everyone, including the ministers- our own plus a visiting one from an inner-city Methodist church which we sponsor year-round. Brian told the tale of a 14-year-old in his congregation who's done so much to rise above the minimal expectations of her friends and family, getting into City Honors High School (the premier magnet school in town), yet struggling so much to both get there (two buses and a subway ride starting at six each morning) and gain acceptance there (most of the students are from far wealthier parts of town), she has found it an immense struggle, which only our ministry's love and support have helped her overcome to this point.

Sure makes bitching about the color of a kid's hair seem kinda petty, doesn't it?

* After that, we stopped briefly at Wegmans before heading home. It was enormously gratifying to see the interactions between Eleanor and so many of her co-workers on this, her day off. In some of her prior positions, the bitchiness of the other employees was palpable, especially if she did something like come in for something on her own time. Everyone in this place seems genuine in their friendships and caring. Acceptance does seem to be the word for both of our Sunday travels.
