The oft-canceled Billy Joel/Elton John concert finally came off downtown the other night. I don't know if this was an onstage remark, or something said in a media event, but Sir Reginald said he was looking forward to coming to B-lo so he could meet Ryan Miller. Sadly, the goalie was not in the building, though he was, for our third straight win, last night:)

Closer to home, we've added and ordered some more-of-this-century music in recent days, as well. A while back, a friend here tipped me off to an indy site called Amie Street. It's one of those where the music starts out at a below-Amazon/iTunes price, and then moves up or down from there (but never above the $9.99 mark) based on popularity. They also send out recommendations (but, unlike some of the bigger sites, don't overwhelm your inbox with 20 a day). So when I got an email from them last week wot said

NEW ALBUM FOR FANS OF GILLIAN WELCH, LUCINDA WILLIAMS AND PATTY GRIFFIN!

I was intrigued. Enough so to listen to the samples and, quickly, to buy the download for all of three bucks:

Jill was the frontwoman of a Tennessee/western NC alt-country group known as the everybodyfields, and a few Friends from down thar remember her work from that band. It's just six songs, but they're pretty and thoughtful.

Then, last night, we ordered a CD from an English jazz artist named Jamie Collum. He's doing a live-to-air concert on JazzFm tonight, which I believe has a stream, so if that's your cuppa, tune in at 7 p.m. ET.

Windows are open here, and I don't mean in Vista. The bad "s" word is slowly being supplanted by the good one:)
