Nothing particularly bad happened to me today, but it was just one of those days that made me feel like the Joe Btfsplk character from the old Lil Abner cartoons.

On occasion, literally, with downpours hitting just as I stepped out of my car to go into the office, and again into the gym. Metaphorically, as well; some, a hangover of real life's return after the nice memories of our anniversary weekend; some just a slow and misconnection-filled day of work, but mostly a different kind of Raining Down, of a bad kind we haven't experienced in years.

One of the current bunch of cats, I suspect the adult female, has started pissing on my desk.

This was a BIG problem around 2000 or so until a few years ago, as our original male, and later two others, started getting older and/or working out their pheromones with each other, but it's really been under control of late. Enough so, Eleanor's been making a tremendous effort to clean up spots in the cellar that had previously been majorly pee-bombed. For our part, Em and I have been working more vigilantly to keep the catboxes clean and freshened up on a regular basis.  Yet despite all that- not to mention everything else we do to feed, house, medicate and outright LOVE this bunch- it really hurts to get repayment in kidney rather than repayment in kind. I spent well over an hour airing out files that had been bombed, putting away others that had escaped the kittysnit, and cleaning the crap out of all the surroundings when done. Sure enough, Michelle has been marching around a lot more today in that very spot, with all expectation of an encore.  Appropriately enough, it all just pisses me off.

Plus the kid's been home all day for the school's It's Really Yom Kippur But We Can't Call It That observance, and she spent the better part of her waking hours in the house this morning sitting in front of the idiot box in the living room, while I was cleaning, emptying the dishwasher and even practicing minor amounts of law in my spare time. I never said anything to her- massive drama ensues when I try to assert any level of parental authority over her- but I think she got a whiff of my foul mood enough that she finally got a good chunk of her own laundry done, the floors swept and vacuumed, and some room reorg completed.

The downpours I got caught in were surrounded by plenty of other drizzle and steady rain with a nasty wind- enough so to have blown away, or washed out the print on, most of the LOST CAT posters we put up two days ago. All that's left to do for "Charlie" now is pray.

On the bright side, I'm almost finished with a remarkable YA novel recommended by a friend to Em to Eleanor to me; I have Joe Queenan's new memoir on order; the first of the Heroes sets requested by somebody is, um, under control; and any day now, the new Girlyman CD and a novel by an old dear friend of mine will be delivered to our very own mailbox. Oh, and one of my dearest friends just got accepted to the college of her choice.

Perhaps best of all, in just over six hours, it will be Tuesday.

Has the kitty crew all been vet-checked? 'Cause you know, inappropriate urination can be a sign of a UTI or other illness.

They're all up-to-date, and if it was the male, I'd have suspected that (Tazzer has a history of UTI which we monitor regularly), but this looks to be the adult female, and more of an emotional issue. Maybe just our handling of an unfixed male over the weekend was enough to set her off.

Aww, Ray. You shouldn't have.

Continued luck with insufferably cute menagerie.

Tuesday was better, thanks. Among other things, the Girlyman album got here and it's wunnerful:)

The book is A Mango-Shaped Space, by Wendy Mass.

And congratulations on clinching, even if yall backed into it;)

backed into it is a good way to put it. i'm happy we're in via wild card, but i don't understand the seeming lack of drive to actually, you know, WIN THE EAST. still, i'm not looking the gift horse in the mouth too closely. it remains to be seen whether we can actually play to full potential or if we'll choke. i'm hoping for the former.

that book sounds really interesting!
