Father Murphy, as in Murphy's Law
Jul. 31st, 2011 12:25 pmHow did my service go this morning, you ask?
Oppressively hot.
I totally miscommunicated one of the hymn requests to the organist, then missed a cue in the bulletin (thank you, God, for an amazing liturgist).
No kids came up for the childrens sermon, so I had to rely on said amazing liturgist to help me play with my props.
Did I mention, oppressively hot?
Still. It went beautifully. At the last minute, I changed a fairly pedestrian opening prayer into one inspired by last weekend's invocation at a NASCAR track, and got a round of applause for it.
The sermon worked in Hyperbole and a Half, decent portions of a sermon stolen (with full disclosure) from one I heard in my former church two weekends ago, and at least one extended reading from a recent entry here.
We-all got out in just under an hour. Which is a good thing on an oppressively hot day.
Now let's see if they ask me to do it again.
Texts of bulletin, message, and the boogity-boogity collect are here, here and here.
