No, those are not the extended instructions for tossing a Holy Hand Grenade version 2.0, but, rather, the hours I was up in the night.

Zoey had her first Bad Day yesterday. I suspect it was of her own doing- and, indirectly, of mine- because she got into the adult cat food yesterday morning. She's getting bigger and brassier, and when I saw Michelle on the stairs looking all forlorn, I went back to the two adult bowls in the cellar and there was Zo, feeding her face out of.... Tazzer's bowl. She'd finagled her way into his food, and Taz promptly booted Michelle out of hers.

By evening feeding, though, Zoey was not herself. Significant parts of herself had found their way out of both ends, and Emily S., DVM, was all worried. We resolved to give it the night before calling for help, and I'm happy to say that the kitten seems fine this morning- just as interested in raiding the forbidden booty in the basement, but now we're preventing that.

Getting there wasn't easy, though. Through my own  worrying about it and, for whatever reason, not feeling well myself overnight (I'm better now, too), I was up every hour from 1 to 4. Most of those times I rolled back to Weird Dreamland, but the last stretch was the hardest, lying awake with a dismal headache, being sure they'd all wake me around 5 and what was the point and I can check my pages and start on this guy's file andzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

They never woke me until 6. Tasha's got a bit of a limp- this happens in older labs when the weather changes and she doesn't seem to be in pain- but otherwise, everyone's fine. Even me.

Great Big Sea's in town tonight! Em and I will be there! (Eleanor's working through starting time and doesn't do well at Things After Work on Saturday anyway.) I will try to get shots and setlists and other such funnery.

----

Speaking of Great Big, my niece continues to sit on the plains of Mordor, Connecticut, writing in her Very Secret Diary about being "still not Mommy." Blessedly for her, this will all end on Tuesday, when a c-section has been scheduled. I'm only slightly bummed, because my last two 50-point-bonus words in Lexulous were PREEMIES and CERVIXES and I'm gonna miss the good luck.

Hour 7: Animals fed. Journal updated. FB notifications: 14. Still not asleep. Yet.
