Good days. Bad, and weird, coupla nights.
Nov. 10th, 2012 06:25 pmThanks to all here, and on the Bookface, for the many wishes for my birfday. I had no court or appointments, and just spent the workday catching up on paperwork, preparing for an intense four-day workweek next week, and getting in my first semblance of a Run-Run since my last 5K, prepatory to the Turkey Trot which, ermagerd, is less than two weeks away.
Did 30 minutes on the treadmill yesterday with no ill effects. Tried it outside this morning, with a few more of them. Clearly I've got some roadwork ahead of me.
Eleanor and I did my birthday dinner out at the same place we've been a few times- a Chinese place near the UB Main Street campus. Imaginative menu, nicely presented, always with helpful waitstaff and an ever-present owner, and a clientele that seems to join us in appreciating the blessings of someone else doing the cooking for you.

I've almost completely succeeded at turning back time, with the morning feeding finally within 10 minutes of what it was before we turned the clocks "back"- and, after that effort this morning, I sat down to read a few online papers. The news from Rochester was not good.
One of Emily's fellow students in the School of Film and Animation died two nights ago after a tragically stupid, liquored-up stunt in which he tried to climb the outside of an off-campus apartment building where some fellow 19-and-20-year olds were throwing a party. Soon as I saw it, I knew I needed to contact Em to be sure she knew and was okay. She did, and mostly is, although the whole SOFA community is pretty well on tenterhooks as a result.
That kind of shock needed a chaser of weird, and I immediately got one:
A section of I-490 is back open this morning after a tractor trailer carrying nearly 40,000 pounds of chicken caught fire on the expressway Thursday night.
The Chili Fire Department responded to the emergency and promptly closed I-490 between exits 4 and 5 shortly after 5:50 p.m.
The chicken-filled 18-wheeler, which originated in Mississippi, ignited and was engulfed in flames just a few miles from its intended destination, the Wegmans Distribution Center, in Chili....
That's pronounced Chy-lye among the locals; no, there isn't going to be any added heat at this barbecue.
There is also no truth to the rumor that someone named Chiavetta was seen pouring cooking oil all over the highway right before exit 5.

The rest of today, productive, as well. Did the final cutting of the back forty, with some essential leaf removal to enable it. Got our storm windows in the front and back screen doors. Got the business accounts all balanced. Enjoyed two back weeks worth of Only a Game on the phone, and listened to a bit more of Mockingjay, not that I'm entirely sure why.
NaNo is still stuck in first gear, but it comes when it comes. No complaining to me about it; I'm older now:P
