Not much progress on this front today. I got to a morning weight workout and an afternoon abbreviated cardio session, neither of which produced my missing book and holder.  I've renewed the book through late this month, and have tablet stuff to tide me over, so I'm giving up the search for now. Last time this happened, I didn't lose a holder, but a day or so after I'd paid the library for the lost book, I got a call saying it had been rescued and turned back in- although I still owed them a re-binding fee that was almost as much as the cost of a new book.

Live and learn.

Mixed fallout among people I know, and have met, over the New York City Marathon cancellation.  One friend who was scheduled to run is taking it pretty hard. Her husband has posted any number of much-deserved accolades for her, and I, and several other of their friends, have joined in them.

On the other hand, the local press has lauded another effort coming out of the cancellation. A local runner had entered, done the necessary charity fundraising, and trained to run the 26.2 tomorrow. When she found out yesterday that it wouldn't happen, her first reaction was to donate her travel expense to the Red Cross. Then she got the even cooler idea to run a marathon, if not the Marathon, anyway. In our own Delaware Park, 15 laps around the perimeter, making more-or-less (actually, more) a full distance.

I made the same donation to her cause (New York City's main relief site) that I'd made for my other friend previously. At least one other friend of hers is donating 10 bucks a mile to it. She's invited company for any or all of the laps; since I need to kickstart my Turkey Trot effort, if I can get my butt down there by 8, I'll try to get in a lap or two with them.  I just hope the City doesn't get all City with her and insist on permits and police protection and, of course, a cut of her donations; all the more reason to have a lawyer freezing at the starting line at that hour.

NaNo count still stands at zippo. But I've been thinking about plot things, so the loss of three whole days isn't gonna kill me.

Speaking of three whole days: by this time three nights from now, it will likely be All Over.  Emily confirmed that she and Cameron will be doing their civic duty first thing Tuesday; she was less aware of the other races in question (are there state or local races, too?), so I found her a link to a League of Women Voters site that, when it's not too overloaded and works, provides the 411 on who's running in your federal and state-level contests.

One thing that confirmed for me? I don't get to vote for my Congresswoman anymore, nor for my long-ago-former one. We've been redistricted away from both Hochul-Collins and Slaughter-Brooks, dumped instead into a relatively safe Dem district now represented by Brian Higgins and being challenged by a fairly over-the-top teabagger.

That would also explain the robocall Brian just made to us.  Save your dime, dude; we're good here.

Hey! Get to writing! This is me poking you with a pointy stick. No excuses, just do it! What are you waiting for?

The race cancellation seems like a very good idea to me. I realize it's a big deal to the people who have trained for it, but... it's a race. It takes place in an area that's recently been devastated. It requires massive resources and humanpower. It doesn't make any sense to me that they would have thought to keep it on.

Maybe I'm missing something.
