At the end of confirmation class tonight, our senior pastor tried to explain to the kids the significance of the four weeks of Advent. One of the weeks, he said, is devoted to "joy," more particularly that of Mary as she learned of her divinely-inspired role in the Incarnation.

Much as I respect Pastor John, I do not remember the line he quoted as being from the Gospel of Luke. Mary was joyful, he said, because

You're having my baby,
What a wonderful way of saying how much you love me.

I was probably the only one there Just Old Enough to have my head exploded by that.

Next week, the second Advent candle will be lit by Hark, the Harold Angel:

The lighting ceremony to continue, the next Sunday, with Shepherds watching over their flocks by night:

"O Come All Ye Faithful?" Nope, not goin' there.

Oh, that is the WORST song EVER! It makes me cringe to hear it. Now I have to go take a mental shower.
