I'm about 95 percent back from the abyss of Wednesday morning's crash. Despite my unfortunate penchant for not making regular backups, I amazingly managed to save all of my email (love to Bill Gates for putting an auto-archive on Outlook, nut-crushing hate to him for making it so hard to transfer that auto-archived data onto a duplicate licensed copy of the thing); I figured out how to transfer all of my Firefox stuff to Barry with only a bit of aggravation; I got both of my specialty softwares transferred (although I did have to hack into my own legal copy of the billing program since I couldn't remember the serial number), losing only two weeks of timekeeping data and three actual sent bills in that program and losing Nothing At All of my bankruptcy data. I still have to track down Semagic, try transferring some Word templates and macros, but otherwise, I dodged major bulletry here.

Not to mention, I'm mobile again! And just in time for NaNo!

I have a grand total of zero words at the moment, but I've run the basic gist of my idea past a few people who'd know if it was running at Ludicrous Speed, and they say it's at least passibly plausible. If you've been in a university in, say, the past 5 years and want to give it your own sniff test, comment.

I've been using my old NaNo community to keep track of my books-read for this year, so I went in there today to update it and try to figure out a place to move it for the rest of this month. My goal of 50 for the year isn't looking good unless I start counting comic books, but for now, and for what it's worth, the list is here. I suppose 32 isn't pitiful, even if a good half dozen of them were baseball-related. The last of those, though, was pretty profound, and seeing as it was a reading copy I promised to do a review of, I'll be having more to say about it sometime later this month.
