For the past few weeks, me and my woefully inadequate little Ford Fuckus have been members of the FUH2 brigade. It's a crusade to tell the owners of these biggest overcompensators just how we feel about them:

Oddly, I see more of these beasts here in and around depressed Buffalo than I have in any of my recent travels to points east and south. Maybe it's the blue-collar, auto-worker-entitlement culture that keeps this city stuck in the early 1960s. Around our suburban office parks, though, it's more likely tied to how many of these hard-drivin' insurance salesmen figured out, a few years back, that Hummers qualified for better income tax treatment than even hybrids did, on account of their excessive poundage.

Not that my four little wheels, or even my two little middle fingers, are likely to change the mindset of these testosterone-sucking morons. You can see their pride in the choice they've made to Be An American At Whatever The Cost. Many of these carbon emitters have New York Yankee logos on their back hatches; four-year-old Bush/Cheney bumper stickers are another popular choice. One owner near my office had the evil sense of humor to put a Sierra Club decal on the back window of one.

Alas for them, General Motors is taking steps to end the orgy:

General Motors is closing four plants and taking a hard look at its iconic Hummer brand as surging fuel prices hasten a dramatic shift to smaller vehicles.

CEO Rick Wagoner said Tuesday before the automaker's annual meeting in Delaware that the Hummer line, some of which is produced in northern Indiana, will be reviewed and potentially sold or revamped. GM also will close truck and SUV plants in Oshawa, Ontario; Moraine, Ohio; Janesville, Wis.; and Toluca, Mexico.

No word on what will become of the equally iconic Hummer dealership on Transit Road. Maybe a drive-through Viagra window would work.
