No Broadcast for Old Men
Feb. 25th, 2008 09:33 amAs expected, I missed the whole thing- Lock, Stock and Tommy Lee Jones's Smoking Barrel. I had to shoo the kid out of the living room right before my bedtime to be sure the DVR would record Dexter in the night.
No matter. The news of it I got early this morning brought few surprises and a couple of predictable story lines, both from the LA Times:
And the award didn't go to Hollywood- about why the Academy hates America, or at least its own back yard therein.
A dark view on dark times- viewing the past several years' rise of extremely violent winners as reactive to our current seven years (going on eight) of bad luck.
I was happy for Tilda, though. I listened to a little of the commentary on the Michael Clayton DVD, and when she first surfaces in the interview segment, the writer-director says something like, "I hate DVD commentaries that are just love fests for all the performers, but Tilda, I'll do that for." Just once I'd like to see someone cast her in a character whose body temperature is above 0 degrees celsius, because I bet she'd nail those performances, too.
Now off to netflix what the rest of the fuss was about.
