I just got back from a spot of erranding, including getting my hair cut while I waited for Emily to finish an after-school activity from which she needed a ride. On the way into the parking lot of the shopping plaza containing the Supercuts, I noticed that the long-closed Chinese restaurant storefront in there had just re-opened under a new name. This was key, because as I wrote around the holidays last year at the time of the previous management's demise, said owners had done a remarkable job of running the place into the ground despite it always seeming to be busy and despite not it being all that cheap price-wise.  "Into the ground" ultimately turned into "below the ground" when the landlord discovered, several weeks after they shut their doors, that they'd left major quantities of food behind.

Yum indeed.

So the new place is apparently free of all those evils, but the hairdressers had plenty to say today about the real story behind the previous one. A couple had owned and run the place, and the guy cutting my hair reported that the wife had tried to cut a deal with her soon-to-be-ex-husband to keep the place running before he turned her down and locked the doors.

One chair to the left, though, came the real lurid reason for the divorce: Mr. 99 Cent All You Can Eat Lunch Buffet apparently had an entire second family on the side. And not in the old country, either, but in another local suburb, one to the east of us.

I thereupon ended the gossiping (and almost the haircut) with the same stupid old Chinese food joke I ended the last entry about the place with:

"Well, what did you expect of him? He went home at the end of the day with his wife from the restaurant, and then an hour later he got hungry again."

I know. No fortune cookie for me:P
