If I haven't pimped Amie Street here before, please for me to do so now. It's a music-download concept so simple, none of the behemoths have thought of it yet: prices vary with the popularity of the track, often beginning at FREE, and going up from there. And what you buy is pure, unrestricted mp3 trackage with none of those hideous DRM bugs crawling all over them.
I was turned on to this source by the ever-thoughtful Friend that is
roguepuppet, who this morning linked to a whole collection of just-released Free Stuff on Amie Street in the comedy category. Lots of old bits from Jonathan Winters, Shelly Berman and Phyllis Diller, but I headed straight for the Star Trek humor and claimed a free copy of "Do the Picard." The downloader asked me, "would you like to buy the entire album for $FREE?" and displayed a tracklist including several of my all-time favorite Trek spoofs including "Star Drek" and The Firm's toe-tappin' "Star Trekkin'," which we only quote around here at least two or three times a week checking out detritus ("It's life, Jim, but not as we know it,....").
I had some grief with using Firefox to complete the transaction, but Nan promises that it can be done, still for free, from this link to the Dr. Demento material accessible on the site.
So go. Ye canna change the laws of physics, but the laws of economics are a-changin:)
