An Prestige-ious Historian
Oct. 31st, 2006 06:42 amIt's good to see The Prestige finally getting some online love, including last night's Cleo-rific Movies in 15 Minutes adaptation. If you haven't seen the film, well, don't click either of those links, since they potentially spoil the thing. As will this entry, but only a little. Problem is, the movie is such a major head-messer-wither, it's hard to talk about without spoiling something, and that includes spoiling it for people who've already seen it. It's that complex.
It took a mere couple of lines into the Cle-ody for me to recall that the film contains an important plot point involving the use of the diary. Or journal, or Victorian blog (
albert_in_a_can?) or whatever you want to call the form. Since that invites a particular form of parody belonging to someone other than
cleolinda, I'm not at all surprised she didn't stoop to it. But I will.
The Very Secret Diary of Angier, Son of Somebody More Important Than You Thought He Was
Day Six:
Hats collected: 300. Must convince Olivia to let me stack them on the whatnot shelf where she's got the Hummels.
Tesla kept me waiting again. Something about Don King needing to have his hair electrocuted.
Still not transported.
Day Ten:
Had bad accident chopping wood outside encampment. Hand fine; metal claws prevented damage.
Tesla's new invention: a digital video disk player, promptly destroyed by Edison's men to defend their "motion picture" format. Just as well; NT's prototype only ran disks either in reverse or with scenes totally out of order.
Not transported except by rather large and obvious jumps.
Day Eleven:
Michael J. Fox filmed commercial in support of candidate who supports stem-cell cloning amendment.
I wonder if he would like me if I was transported?
Day 26:
Dreamed that Cutter was in even more complex story than this with Laurence Olivier.
New magic show in West End- someone calling himself "Captain Kirk" with a trick called The Transformed Man. Audiences coming out v. panicked.
Transporter still out.
