We just got back from our friendly neighborhood car repair shop. Eleanor's truck popped a brake light on the dashboard late on Friday, and after she gingerly got it home safely, poured in some replacement brake fluid, and watched it mostly drip right back out, we made the call. They couldn't get it in until Monday, so we just played musical cars all weekend (Emily was home, which helped) and we decided to take it over today right after church, when it's still relatively seasonal temperaturish out there.

That did mean having to run a two-car blinkers-on parade down Sheridan Drive, a fairly major state highway known for more than its share of idiots. Fortunately, they were few and far between, and we got there without incident.

It would've been harder on Friday if we had been able to get the truck in then. When Eleanor took Emily earlier that day for her wisdom tooth consult (the reason she came home for the weekend), they were doing roadwork on Maple Road, one of the three main east-west surface streets crossing our town from the western-bordering Boulevard to the east-edging Transit.  Cars were being detoured into what are usually opposite-direction lanes, and drivers were freaking out- a process still in process as of 5 that night and putting large amounts of spillover onto the parallel roads.  It was also a process totally unhelped by the geniuses at DOT, who chose the same freakin' day to do striping work on Sheridan and on Main Street- the only other two main east-west surface streets.

Knowing how these morons think, next week they'll do the same thing and tie up all the primary north-south roads at once.

We've spent most of our home time watching some very good Netflixes, enjoying some Mortal Kombat between crows and squirrels around the birdfeeders, and having good times with Em and Cameron while she was home.  She left very late last night because she's now working on-campus and had to be back for a Sunday shift. Ohh, how I remember those good times.

Yes, the parade of hazard light cars down a major road does not appear to be the kind of parade I would want to be in. Of course if you give me a band uniform and a clarinet, I'll march just about anywhere.
