In the beginning, there was the Kindle. And Bezos saw the Kindle, and said that it was good. At tracking your every move.
So I looked at other tablety things. Nooks. Droids. The sadly-dumped (and then never available) HP TouchPads. iPads. ThisPads. ThatPads.
Finally, the guru found this- the Eee pad.

Even better, he offered to get it for me as a thank-you gift- for all the times I've been called out of nowhere and bailed him out (not literally) of whatever jam he seemed to have gotten into. The selection of this more-or-less type goes back to October. It was on its way in November. It would be there for sure in December. By last month, it had become a matter of back-order problems, but last Friday, bless me, I got an email that it had shipped and had a confirmed delivery date of Saturday!
I asked the obvious question: Saturday as in tomorrow, or Saturday a week from?
The call came Monday, from on high: It's here! You can pick it up on Wednesday!
Uh huh. A reading from the Book of Inbox from this morning:
We charged the tablet for a day, turned it on and found a line across the screen. This tablet has a bad lcd panel!!!
We dropshipped it back & reordered another expedited tablet. It will arrive between February 27th & March 1st.
It takes that long because, as you know, Shangri-La is a minimum of two-day delivery.
Fortunately, I have no pressing need for the thing, but at this point I'm expecting it to spontaneously combust the first time I plug it in. For my patience in all these delays, they have also ordered for me a case, a stand and the docking station that's what they really sell separately. I suppose I could just attach all of those to my iPhone, or a white potato, and see how THAT goes.
