Illegal Procedure
Feb. 3rd, 2012 07:53 pmClearly, someone's cruisin' for a suin'- as evidenced by this ad in this week's Rochester alt-weekly:
Really, guys? Personally, I think it's a great idea, and if I wasn't traveling all afternoon (and still lived in Rochester to see it), I'd be all-in with watching this rather than abiding all the endless pre-game analysis. But. You're seriously risking litigation here from one of the most protective and aggressive entities in all of creation.
No, not the NFL, although they might be second. I mean the wiggy barristers of across the Pond, who have already sued PBS over using their characters as the inspiration for promotional merch:
Apparently PBS was trying to hock some busted, knock-off jewelry based loosely on the accessories worn by the highfalutin gals on my favorite fictional English estate. Well, this marketing deal was not approved of by the creator of the show, Julian Fellowes, nor Carnival Films, the company behind the breakout hit show. Obviously, you can't try and make a buck off the Crawleys without their express approval, and you know that the Dowager Countess just won't stand for these trash-tastic imitations parading around with her family's name attached.
There are spoilers at the end of that clip, which I'd probably get sued for if I revealed them, so I'll just end things here.
